Gentle Ramirez is formally trained in HTML, CSS, Javascript, python, and has experience in SQL, XCode, and more. A May 2022 New York University graduate, Gentle is most passionate about using their software engineering background to envision technology products that are transparent and empower Black communities. Gentle is an active member in many organizations set to empower historically excluded people in tech. Finally, Gentle has interned and/or participated in competitive programs at Twitter, JPMorgan, Google, Microsoft, Deloitte, Goldman Sachs, D.E. Shaw, The New York Times, ColorStack, AT&T, Tech @ Pimco, and Harvard University.
Gentle’s work centers poetry to revolutionize concepts surrounding race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, class, ability, citizenship, universal forces, and more. At New York University, I have completed my minor in Creative Writing with a concentration in Poetry! 1/2 of my minor I completed through the unique Undergraduate Intensive Seminars in Poetry- taught by acclaimed poets Terrance Hayes and Matthew Rohrer—open to select NYU undergraduates. It has been a dream come true to spend my course of study in the Master Class programming. A 2020 Finalist for the Langston Hughes Community Poetry Reading Committee's Prize and a recipient of The Oluwatoyin Salua Freedom Fighters Grant (2020), Gentle has featured and hosted at Barnard’s Annual Sister Spit and featured in Say It Loud: A Showcase of Arts and Black Activism at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
Gentle is a Certified Yoga Instructor (always) in Training. In the spring of 2015 Gentle studied with Hemant Kumar Tiwari M.Sc. & B.Sc. in Yoga (Theory & Practice) from Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana University in Varanasi, India. In the Fall of 2015 Gentle Ramirez Interned at Abaya Yoga in Dumbo, NY with Aaron Angel. Their 50 YTT was completed in March 2021 from the Yoga Teacher Academy under Julianne Arce. Their non-performative 200 YTT began at iyaKIN with Abiola Akani and successfully completed at Lotus Detox and Wellness Centre in Accra, Ghana.
Gentle Ramirez engages in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research to study and name the experiences of African American people.
In the summer of 2020, Gentle interned at Kunhardt Films’s Obama: In Pursuit of A More Perfect Union, distributed on HBO.
Gentle challenges the traditional thought and framework personally and professionally by rewriting the stories of their own origin despite socioeconomic inequalities impact on their sense of self.
